Whether following in the footsteps of parents and other family members or looking for a way to make a difference, graduating seniors often choose the military as the next step in their futures.

For almost a century, the American Legion has been honoring students who exemplify the six qualities that define character with its School Award Medal Program. Several Comal ISD campuses participate in this tradition by nominating students for this award.

For 14 years, William Daugherty has been teaching tumbles, stunts, pyramids and more to cheer athletes at Smithson Valley Middle School, and now, the Texas Girls Coaches Association is honoring his dedication and skill.

While celebrities continue to honor the graduating class of 2020 with special commencement speeches on YouTube and Instagram, the words spoken by seniors themselves are the ones which truly have meaning. The top two graduating seniors from each of Comal ISD's high schools encouraged, commiserated and challenged their fellow graduates to remember the highs and learn from the lows.

Senior Abigail Redin will not only graduate this Friday, June 5, she also will be featured on KENS 5 News as a Champion for Change. Redin received this honor because of the impact she has made on her community through her two Soles4Souls shoe drives.

When two Smithson Valley High School students spearheaded a campaign to raise money and awareness for children's mental health and wellness in January, they never imagined how "real" mental health would become in the face of COVID-19.

With approximately 950 entries from around the great state of Texas, this year's annual PTA Reflections contest brought out the best work from budding artists, writers, photographers and choreographers, and 17 Comal ISD students are being honored for their work.

UPDATE: Meals will contain lunch and breakfast for the next day. On Thursday, parents will pick up Thursday lunch and a Meal Kit to include Friday, Saturday, Sunday breakfast and lunch and Monday breakfast.
