Dear Seniors,
Spring has arrived at Smithson Valley High School! As I look at my calendar, I can feel the excitement of the end of another wonderful school year for me and hopefully the conclusion of four great years as a RANGER for each of you. Looking forward, the road ahead will lead to several special events that will create memories to last a lifetime: Prom, Senior Awards Night, Academic Recognition Banquet for the “Top Twenty” Seniors and, of course, Graduation.
This time of year is also a time to reflect on the accomplishments of this talented group of young men and women who will surely leave their mark as the Class of 2008.
This year we have seen Matt Genovese earn the honor of being named a National Merit Finalist along with six of his classmates earning Commended Scholar Awards. The Smithson Valley agriculture sales team represented the school well with a third place showing at national competition
in Indiana. Band and Choir earned top ratings as they competed in their UIL events, and our UIL Academic teams earned several top awards.
Outside the classroom, the Ranger Football and Volleyball teams made a strong showing in the playoffs. The Rangers were represented at the state level as Julie Amthor competed in the State Cross Country Meet. Several members of the track team have advanced past district and the boys’ and girls’ golf teams earned berths to UIL Regionals. As the baseball and softball seasons draw to a close, both teams are poised for another strong showing in the quest for state gold!
I could take all day highlighting the accomplishments of this extraordinary
class. As we approach the end of your senior year, I can simply wish you well and tell you to never stop reaching for the stars. On May 31, 2008, you will graduate and move on to your next adventure in life, but please remember…RANGERS you will ALWAYS be!
Best Wishes and Good Luck,
Chris Trotter
